This month I made a new series of Friday Robots!
Recently I had the great honor of having my artwork selected to appear on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Every Friday they show one portrait of Colbert (dubbed Fan Art Friday) immediately after the monologue.
On Friday, May 17, 2019, my art appeared on the same stage as Mr. Colbert. I cannot adequately express how much of an honor it was to have my work share the same stage as one of my comedy heroes. Here is my iPhone video of the moment. (I haven’t been able to download a better resolution video of it; if you can help me find it online somewhere, please let me know.)
We made it to another Friday! And so, to celebrate our impending co-existence with super intelligent robots, here is today’s entry in Friday Robots. This robot, like so many others, enjoys contemplating the intricacy of nature.
Today’s Friday Robot was inspired by a spread in a book by Patrick McDonnell. I’ve been a fan of his for a long time. His brushwork is particularly compelling. With this, I was attempting to approximate the look digitally.
This Friday Robot has Autumnal colors.
The return of Friday Robots! This was a series I did for many years. An art challenge, a fun bit of design work, and a way to make something once a week with no expectations. This guy is more representational than usual, but he is as mysterious as any Robot I’ve met.
